Oklahoma GOP Needs New Leadership
Cheryl Williams, long-time Republican activist, and current vice chair of the Oklahoma Republican Party, announced today that she will seek to become chair of the Party when they meet this spring.
She states that ‘with the 2010 elections quickly approaching, the Republican Party must begin now. It will take a team that is energized and organized to elect Republicans to the office of Governor, Lt, Governor, Attorney General, Insurance Commissioner, Labor Commissioner, Treasurer, and State School Superintendent” She also stated that “we must re-elect Dana Murphy to the Corporation Commission as well as work with the State House and Senate leadership to retain the majority in both chambers of the legislature”.
Williams has been the “highest elected volunteer” for the Oklahoma Republican Party since her election as Vice Chair in April 2007. During the 2008 election cycle, she traveled extensively across the state working to energize the Republican base while increasing voter registration and working side-by-side with candidates and volunteers. One of her passions has been to educate citizens on the principles and beliefs of the Republican party and encouraging involvement in the political process.
She served as Oklahoma County Republican Chair during the 2000 elections and has served in various leadership positions within the party, including State Treasurer and Secretary to the State Committee. She is a member of the Frontier Country Republican Women and has served on the Board of the Oklahoma Federation of Republican Women for more than 10 years. Currently she is Literacy Chair for the OFRW and two unit clubs have won National Literacy Awards from the NFRW during her tenure.
She states that “if your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader". (by John Quincy Adams, 5th president to the United States). Her platform includes increased communication through innovation, technology, new media, and proven marketing techniques. “If we are to reach younger voters, we will need to improve how we communicate our message of pro-family, limited government, and constitutional freedoms”. She has been a speaker at national training seminars and is well known for her ability to motivate and build a team of volunteers. “I have always believed there is a place for every Republican who wants to be involved in campaigns and our party.”
Cheryl and her husband, John, have been married more than 30 years and live in Edmond, Oklahoma. They have two sons, 1 grandson and 2 granddaughters. She is a 3rd generation Oklahoman with family throughout the state. If you have questions or need additional information, please feel free to contact Cheryl Williams at 405-818-8481 or cherylgop@cox.net

Actions Speak Louder Than Words
It's the last weekend until the inauguration of a new President. For conservatives, it feels like we are awaiting the funeral of a long lost relative. While the liberals, leftist media and unwitting citizens celebrate this impending event, there is a large segment of the population that do not see this as a dream fulfilled, but a nightmare in the making. I mean no disrespect for the incoming President, but I have a nagging question - what will happen to this great nation under his leadership?
As a conservative Christian, I am going to watch what he does, not just listen to what he says. It's that old adage "stop, look and listen"... you know, what we taught our children to do before crossing the street, driving over the railroad tracks, etc. It is being aware of the possibility of danger or distress. Of course, there is the other saying... Actions Speak Louder Than Words!
First, conservative Republicans need to "stop" following the crowd as they mull along like lemmings to the sea. We need to "stop" thinking there is something wrong with being a conservative! It's also time to stop saying 'what if' and recognize that life is moving forward (with or without us).
Next, we need to "look" at where we are going. The Republican Party must strongly define the purpose of our party, which will provide the direction we need to go. President Reagan believed in the true conservative principles that made our nation great. Then he showed us those principles as he led our nation. These conservative principles are based on faith, family and freedom.
We need to "listen" to what is actually being said by the next President and his appointees. Someone can make pretty speeches and never say anything of relevance. And sometimes they don't tell you the whole truth, parsing their words to hide their intent. That's why actions do speak louder than words.
I hope you will join me as we 'stop, look and listen' during the weeks and months ahead.

Where there is no vision, the people perish...
This Bible verse is one of my favorites because it identifies my passion - organizing, energizing, encouraging and motivating people to get involved in the political process. My guiding motto has been if we fail to plan ... we plan to fail!
We all have something we can do and, I believe, every Republican has a place to work within the Republican party. A few people can't do all of the work... it takes all Republicans working together. The elections of 2010 are just 22 months away and Republicans must work together to elect conservatives from the State Capitol to the Court House.
Twenty years ago, our family held our first precinct meeting in our home. We took the time to get involved and learned what we could do. We found our passion for politics and that it only takes a little bit of our time to make a difference!
Almost every precinct in Oklahoma will hold their Republican Precinct Elections and Meetings on Tuesday, January 27, at 7 p.m. Party officers and leaders will be elected at each precinct meeting, county conventions, and the state convention (April 18, 2009). I encourage Republicans who attend these meetings to elect people of vision to lead during the next 2 years.
You can make a difference by attending your precinct meeting. You can also motivate and encourage Oklahomans to register to vote as a Republican. And you can educate others on what Republicans stand for. Learn where your precinct will meet by contacting your Republican County Chair (http://www.okgop.com/committeedirectory.aspx).
I hope you will attend your precinct meeting and find your place in the Republican Party. Together we can make a difference in our community, state and nation!

I'll think about that tomorrow?
With the beginning of a new year, I always like to review the past year so I can (hopefully) not fall into the same pitfalls or problems that were experienced during those last 12 months. Today, I am reflecting on the Scarlett O'Hara theory!
One of my favorite sayings from Gone With the Wind is at the very end when Scarlett says she'll think about that tomorrow, just as Rhett finally get frustrated and leaves her. She cries a tear without ever recognizing that most of the problems she has experienced, including her husband leaving her, have been because she was focused on a person (Ashley) who had mesmerized her.
Scarlett's attitude is one example of what voters did in 2008. They focused on a person, instead of their principles, listening to a man with a soothing voice as they became mesmerized by his voice tone and looks. Then the majority of the voters failed to judge either man by their core beliefs, seeing an eloquent speaker, who had little substance, versus an older man who struggled to explain his views. Just as Ashley continued to tell Scarlett that he loved his wife, she only heard what she wanted to hear! And the average voter on November 4, 2008 based their vote on what they thought they heard from each candidate.
In the movie, the scenes unfold through technicolor and inspiring music, which even today can give you goose bumps. If you watch the movie, you can't help but want Scarlett to finally see the light before Rhett walks away. And we all hope, against hope, that he will turn back to her and grasp her in her arms. We're all a sucker for a good ending! But the movie really ends on a sad note... Scarlett is left alone! I have even read the sequal book Scarlett in hopes that finally she would find happiness... which doesn't happen!
In the same way, I hope against hope that America will see the light about our next president. That the media will finally tell the truth and we (Americans) will have a happy ending. With the media's help, the average voter fell for their candidate, some swooning as if the Messiah had come! I must give his campaign credit for using music, Hollywood style graphics and sets, body language, and more to sell him to the uneducated voter. But blaming the media will only get us the same result as Scarlett had - left behind with a tear in our eye!
Ultimately, America will pay the price, literally, for electing a man who told us that he was a socialist and promised a chicken in every pot as well as an answer for every problem. Our children, grandchildren, and next generations will pay the high price. Our nation cannot print the money fast enough to pay for the debt being incurred today through promises, bailouts, stimulus packages, etc. So, what do we do?
Our decision TODAY is to decide what we will do TOMORROW. Will we just close the door, wipe our tears away, and go about as if nothing happened? Or, will we learn a lesson so we don't fall into the pit again!
What I learned is that I must work harder to educate voters about the true conservative values of America. Values based on our US Constitution, not our feelings, our wallets, or our fears. It will take Americans returning to the values and vision of our Founding Fathers for America to survive. Unlike Scarlett, I have learned from what happened yesterday so that we don't make the same mistakes tomorrow.
Republicans are at the crossroads, we will either keep trying to do the same thing, but maybe a different way, and we'll get the same results. If the elections of 2006 and 2008 teach us anything, it should be that PRINCIPLES really do matter! We can have tons of money in our campaigns, but if we don't have our core beliefs, we will never win. Moving to the center and trying to outspend the democrats with tax dollars, will never win. We only win when we govern by conservative principles AND base all our decisions on these core principles.
Tomorrow will be here soon, and if we are to survive, we must return to our constitutional basis. My prayer is that Republicans will return to our constitutional principles... and that America wakes up tomorrow, and the next day. The Scarlett O'Hara theory only works in the movies!
